6G Flagship Talk - Critical Machine-Type Communications Towards 6G

6G Flagship is the world’s first 6G research program, part of Finland’s national research spearhead programme from 2018 to 2026. Its mission is to envision and define a 6G-enabled digital world by 2030, guided by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. It has a clear focus on creating essential 6G components, tools, and equipment, and developing vertical applications to accelerate societal digitization.

In a 6G Talks webinar earlier this year,  Adj. Prof. Nurul Huda Mahmood and Assist. Prof. Onel López went into the realm of critical machine-type communications (cMTC) as we advance towards 6G technology. This enlightening presentation explores the evolution, challenges, and potential solutions in the field of cMTC, emphasising its vital role in shaping the future of wireless communication networks.

Key Topics covered were:

  • Evolution from connecting people to connecting things
  • Design models and requirements of cMTC
  • Statistical tools and communication theoretic approaches in cMTC
  • Current challenges in developing cMTC solutions
  • Enabling technologies for 6G, like AI, edge computing, and RIS
