Panel Discussion on 'Evolving AI Architectures in Support of End-to-end Heterogeneous Next Generation Networks'

Earlier in the year, the Networking Channel hosted a panel discussion on "Evolving AI architectures in support of heterogeneous end-to-end next generation networks". The speakers included:

  • Anna Tzanakaki – University of Athens (slides)
  • Luiz da Silva – VirginiaTech (slides)
  • Vadim Sheinin – IBM Research (slides)

And the organizers included:

  • Marco Ruffini – Trinity College Dublin
  • Dan Kilper – Director of CONNECT Centre

The preview of the discussion said:

The rapidly evolving landscape of network technology is increasingly influenced by the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI). This panel focuses on how the architectures of AI models need to evolve to move from todays’ single domain implementation, to support future end-to-end, multi-domain and multi-technology networking environment.

The panel will provide a comprehensive analysis of various AI architectures, their design, functionality, and adaptability in different network scenarios. It will explore the challenges and opportunities in applying AI across diverse technological areas, including wireless communications, optical networks, and cloud-based services. It will also explore how to adapt to a multi-domain network, touching on issues such  data compatibility, privacy and  availability.

The panel is organised by the 6G-XCEL project, funded by the European Commission under the SNS stream B on EU-US 6G R&I COOPERATION, which brings together European and US academic and industry partners to develop novel architectures for a decentralised multi-party, multi-network AI (DMMAI) framework.
