The 6G Smart Networks and Services Industry Association (6G-IA), representing Europe’s industry and research leadership in next-gen networks, has released a whitepaper titled 'European Vision for the 6G Network Ecosystem'. This paper outlines Europe’s proactive role in shaping 6G technology, aiming for a commercial launch by 2030.
The whitepaper emphasizes:
- Global Collaboration: Establishing a unified 6G vision through worldwide stakeholder efforts.
- Technological Advancements: Innovations like AI integration, sensing and communication (ISAC), and advanced cybersecurity.
- Sustainability Goals: Ensuring 6G systems are eco-friendly while enhancing industry-wide sustainability (e.g., healthcare, transportation).
Europe’s contributions, led by initiatives like the Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS-JU) and projects like Hexa-X-II, focus on aligning with global standards while addressing socio-economic challenges, including energy efficiency and societal impact.
Key highlights include:
- Use Cases & KPIs: Six key use case families such as immersive experiences, collaborative robots, and digital twins, with defined performance metrics (e.g., data rates, reliability).
- Operational Efficiency: Focus on spectrum management, deployment strategies, and seamless 5G-to-6G migration.
- 6G-Enabled Services: Envisioning interconnected smart networks and proposing a new ecosystem-driven approach to sustainable business models.
This paper reinforces Europe’s leadership in 6G R&D, standardization, and its commitment to societal and environmental goals.
A webinar discussing this whitepaper took place on 25 November. The video of that is embedded below and the slides are available here.
